DELEGATION HONORS PRESENTED IN 2003

Nine candidates who had been recommended by the American Delegate were presented with their diplomas and insignia as members of the Savoy Orders in 2003.

In the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus: one Cavaliere di Gran Croce (Motu Proprio), one Ufficiale, and four Dame and Cavalieri, one promotion to Cavaliere di Gran Croce (Motu Proprio), and six to Ufficiale.

Two Devotees of Merit of the Order were installed.

In the Order of Merit of Savoy: three Cavalieri were installed.

The Cross of Merit of Savoy in Gold was presented to one member of the Orders for special services rendered to the House of Savoy.

Eric Ierardi, Delegate of the Gruppo Savoia in the United States. The dinner was attended by members of the Gruppo Savoia and of the Savoy Orders, including special guest H.E. Cav. Gr. Cr. Archbishop Celestino Migliore Apostolic Nuncio and Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations.

MASS AND INSTALLATION OF NEW KNIGHTS AND DAMES,
PROMOTIONS, AND OTHER HONORS

The Celebrant on this occasion was His Excellency Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Apostolic Nuncio and Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations. The Mass was con-celebrated by Uff. The Very Rev. John P. McGuire, O.P., Director, The Catholic Center of New York University, and The Rev. George Rutler, Pastor of the church. As the organist, Dr. Robert Prior, played the Inno Sardo the Knights and Dames of the Savoy Orders processed into the church under the direction of Uff. The Rev. Can. Harry E. Krauss, Ceremoniarius of the Delegation. After the Homily by Father McGuire, new Knights and Dames of the Orders were presented with their Church robes and insignia by Cav. Gr. Cr. Avv. Carl J. Morelli, who represented H.R.H. Prince Victor Emmanuel of Savoy, Grand Master of the Savoy Orders. He was assisted by Cav. Gr. Cr. James C. Risk, Delegate Emeritus and Gr. Uff. Dott. Robert A. LaRocca. Insignia were also presented to those being promoted and to those receiving other honors. Uff. John Shannon and Uff. Avv. John Fiorilla served as Marshals, and Devotees of Merit of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, Stephen H. Acunto, Jr. and Christopher Braun, served as ushers. Comm. L'On. Dominic Massaro received the Cross of Merit of Savoy in gold, the only member of the American Delegation to be so honored, in recognition of his efforts toward ending the exile of Their Royal Highnesses Prince Victor Emmanuel and Prince Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy. After the Mass the Knights and Dames processed out as the organist played the Marcia Reale Italiana. A reception was held in the undercroft of the church after the ceremony. Cav. Avv. William J. Dowling acted as coordinator for the event.

On the evening of the same day, at the American Foundation of Savoy Orders' Ballo di Savoia - 2003 the new members, promotions and honorees were presented with their diplomas by Cav. Gr. Cr. Avv. Carl J. Morelli, who represented H.R.H. Prince Victor Emmanuel of Savoy, Grand Master of the Savoy Orders. He was assisted by Cav. Gr. Cr. James C. Risk, Delegate Emeritus.

AMERICAN FOUNDATION OF SAVOY ORDERS'
BALLO DI SAVOIA

On Saturday evening, December 13, 2003, the American Foundations of Savoy Orders'Ballo di Savoia 2003 took place at the Union League Club on Park Avenue at 37th Street in New York City. The Ballo was both a joyful event and a financial success. A record 180 members of the Savoy Orders, their families and friends, attended this gala event. Dama Carole H. Acunto served as Chairman of the Ballo, and as Mistress of Ceremonies. The hard work and leadership of the Foundation's Development Committee Chairman, Uff. Avv. David V. Skoblow, also helped to make this Ballo such a great success. Honored guests included H.E. Cav. Gr. Cr. Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, who gave the Invocation. In a brief ceremony, Diplomas and Insignia were presented to new Knights and Dames, Promotions and other Honorees who were unable to attend the Mass and Installation that morning. The success of the Ballo was such that the Foundation will be able to give St. Vincent's Hospital, Manhattan, the money needed to purchase a specially equipped ambulance for the use of the hospital's Rudolph W. Giuliani Trauma Center. The new ambulance will bear the arms of the Royal House of Savoy.

INAUGURAL SAVOY HISTORY LECTURE

Through the excellent efforts of Cav. Marco Grassi and Cav. Avv. William B. Warren, the American Delegation's Savoy History Lecture Series was launched with a fascinating illustrated lecture on Prince Eugene of Savoy. The lecture was presented by Cav. Avv. Warren, a noted expert on Prince Eugene, and was attended by more than 100 members and friends of the Savoy Orders. An informal reception followed. Cav. Gr. Cr. Sergio Pellecchi represented and read a personal message from H.R.H. Prince Victor Emmanuel of Savoy.

Robert A. La Rocca, at the annual Columbus Day Mass sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and celebrated by H.E. Cav. Gr. Cr. Edward Cardinal Egan.

INSTALLATION OF SONS OF ITALY PRESIDENT

As Delegate and wearing Church robe of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus authorized by its Grand Chancellor, Gr. Uff. Avv. Carl J. Morelli represented the American Delegation at the Mass and installation of American Delegation member, Uff. Joseph Sciame, as the new National President of the Sons of Italy, an 80,000 member national organization.

CARDINAL BEVILACQUA INSTALLATION CEREMONY

The Delegation sponsored a reception and dinner in honor of His Eminence Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua, Archbishop of Philadelphia, at the Union League of Philadelphia. The Cardinal was invested as a Cavaliere di Gran Croce (Knight of the Grand Cross) of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus. This very special event was generously hosted by Ufficiale Frank Giordano, the regional representative for Philadelphia. He was assisted by Uff. Richard Cosnotti and Uff. Prof. Eric Ierardi. ANNUAL SPRING RECEPTION AND DINNER OF

The annual Foundation's Spring Reception and Dinner was organized by Uff. Avv. David V. Skoblow, Chairman of the Development Committee. This spring event was the most successful yet and attracted a record number of Members and guests. The Foundation was pleased to welcome as its guest for the evening, the newly installed Apostolic Nuncio, H.E. Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations. The Foundation was also pleased to present a special birthday cake to its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Cav. Gr. Cr. James C. Risk, who celebrated his 90th birthday the week before. Over 100 members and friends of the Savoy Orders and their guests attended.

MEMORIAL MASS FOR H.M. KING UMBERTO II OF ITALY

The Delegation sponsored a Memorial Mass commemorating the 20th anniversary of the death of His Majesty, King Umberto II of Italy. The King was the father of the Grand Master of the Savoy Orders, H.R.H. Prince Victor Emmanuel of Savoy, and the grandfather of the Grand Chancellor of the Savoy Orders, H.R.H. Prince Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy. The Mass we celebrated by the pastor of the Church of Our Saviour, Rev. George Rutler and took place at the Church on March 20, 2003. Among the attendees were 50 members and friends of the Savoy Orders.
